Impacts of Climate Change on Ocular Health: A Scoping Review

This comprehensive review article describes the concerning effects of climate change on ocular health. Reviewing 130 publications, the authors found that extreme temperatures and weather events were linked to increased incidence of ocular surface diseases, cataracts, glaucoma, infections, and more. Climate events like drought can also cause food insecurity, which was associated with nutritional optic neuropathies and subsequent vision loss. This scoping review article demonstrates the necessity of global collaboration to address the many consequences of climate change variables on ocular health and vision.
