In a move that significantly reduces paper waste, BVI has transitioned to electronic Instructions for Use (eIFUs) across all BVI-manufactured intraocular lenses (IOLs) in markets where this format is accepted. This approach has also been extended to BVI’s gas products and surgical fluids, replacing traditional paper inserts and enhancing accessibility for medical professionals.
Eliminating Refrigeration Necessity for Surgical Fluids
BVI has reformulated its surgical fluids, including a new cohesive ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD) used in cataract surgeries, to be stored at room temperature. This advancement not only improves convenience for surgical teams but also eliminates the energy-intensive refrigeration requirements traditionally associated with these products. The company has also launched R&D initiatives aimed at minimizing the primary packaging of select surgical fluids.
Certified Facilities and Responsible Partnerships
Several of BVI’s key facilities, including those in Bidford and Juarez, are now ISO 14001 certified, a globally recognized benchmark for effective environmental management systems. Alongside these achievements, BVI continues to enhance responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices throughout its supply chain—ensuring sustainability is prioritized from product development to delivery.
Sustainable Packaging and Communication
BVI is also optimizing its packaging and customer engagement strategies with sustainability in mind. The organization has rolled out recyclable shipping boxes and has begun promoting digital brochures through the MyBVI Hub, reducing its reliance on printed materials and enhancing accessibility for clinicians and partners worldwide. At the same time, it has adopted recyclable packaging materials, eco-certified by Imprim’Vert and PEFC, further aligning packaging design with global environmental standards.
